GREEN TIDE RISING

GREEN TIDE RISING (GTR) is an eight-episode audio and video series that spotlights Latin America's Green Wave movement and how it's shaping some of the most progressive abortion policies in the world.

Through the eyes of feminist lawyer and reproductive rights advocate Ximena Casas Isaza, we meet the people who have turned the fight for reproductive justice in Latin America and the Caribbean into a powerful, modern feminist movement - from the tip of Argentina all the way to Mexico and beyond.

Hosted by Monica Morales-Garcia and Asha Dahya, Green Tide Rising positions the Global South as a beacon of hope and a reminder of what’s at stake for the Global North if we don't act now.

My short documentary Someone You Know

3 Women. 3 Decisions. 1 Hostile landscape. Three women share their experiences navigating numerous barriers in a hostile landscape to get a later abortion.

Today in America, approximately 1 in 4 people will have an abortion before the age of 45. Trans and non-binary people also have abortions, through their experiences are rarely included in research or statistics. There are no abortion services in at least 89% of U.S. counties,
and the number of facilities offering later abortions is even more limited. Only a handful of states offer abortion services after the first trimester, and now with Roe v Wade overturned, the barriers to getting an abortion will only get worse. Later abortion patients often become the target of political misinformation and attacks and bear the bulk of harassment. In 'Someone You Know', we meet 3 women - Mindy Swank, Valerie Peterson and Sharon Lagos. Making the decision to use their real names and faces in the interviews, utilizing animation to illustrate their stories, each of the women share their complex stories of having to overcome numerous barriers, in a hostile landscape, to get an abortion later in pregnancy, at a time in America when reproductive freedom is being rolled back at an alarming pace.

My TEDx Talk

In 2019 I spoke at TEDx Normal with a talk titled Re-framing Reproductive Rights: Going Beyond Pro-Choice vs Pro Life. What would it look like if we took the most divisive topic in America and changed the narrative beyond the pro-choice vs pro-life conversation. Can abortion be seen through a lens other than the political space it currently occupies? And is it possible to find common ground?
